Democrat Dennis Moore is defending his seat against Republican Adam Taff. Moore has represented the 3rd district since 1998.
In the 2000 presidential election, district voters chose Republican and former Texas Gov. George W. Bush over Democrat Al Gore.
About 41.4 percent of residents in the
3rd district make a living
as doctors, lawyers, managers and other professionals and
28.5 percent work in 9 to 5 office jobs as salespeople, administrative assistants or secretaries, for example.
Another 10.3 percent are employed
in transportation and production, jobs courted by powerful unions.
Median household income is $50,831 a year
and the median value of a home is $131,200.
Married couples make up 53.5 percent of the district's households,
and those with children represent 26.1 percent.
